Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has relieved all his political aides of their appointments in a sweeping reshuffle that affects key officials across his administration.
Those affected include the deputy chief of staff, special advisers, advisers, special assistants, assistants to the governor and the principal private secretary.
The decision was announced in a statement issued early Monday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mashood Agboola.
According to the statement, Governor AbdulRazaq expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for their contributions to the administration and wished them success in their future endeavours.
“His Excellency expresses his gratitude to all the appointees for their priceless service to the state. He wishes them the best in their future endeavours,” the statement read.
The governor also directed all officials affected by the decision to immediately hand over government property in their possession to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
The statement did not give reasons for the mass disengagement or indicate whether replacements would be announced in the coming days.
The development comes as AbdulRazaq approaches the final phase of his second and constitutionally final term as governor, which expires in May 2027. The governor is widely reported to be seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the Kwara Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.
While the government has not linked the shake-up to the approaching elections, the move is expected to reshape the political structure of the administration ahead of the transition period.
