The Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, threatened to leave the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) over the replacement of candidates submitted by the bloc.
The movement described the reports as unfounded and insisted there was no crisis between Kwankwaso and the party leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the group, spokesman Habibu Sale Mohammed said neither the movement nor its leader had expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s internal processes.
The clarification follows media reports claiming that the movement was considering withdrawing support for the party after some candidates reportedly nominated by the bloc were replaced.
Mohammed said the claims misrepresented events surrounding the party’s candidate selection process.
According to him, the NDC conducted its primaries in accordance with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that stakeholders had previously agreed on a consensus arrangement where necessary and that candidates were subsequently adopted and submitted without major disagreements.
The spokesman further stated that Kwankwaso had not communicated any grievances regarding the process and remained committed to the party.
The movement urged supporters and members of the public to disregard what it described as speculative reports capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party.
