The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by the outgoing Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid.
Iniedu, a native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, succeeds Placid and assumes responsibility for managing the public communications and media relations of the Nigeria Police Force.
The newly appointed police spokesman holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo and has undergone professional training in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication and intelligence analysis.
Prior to his appointment, he served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and led initiatives aimed at improving transparency, accountability and public confidence in the police.
He also previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State.
Throughout his career, Iniedu has held several operational and administrative positions within the Force, including Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.
As head of the Situation Room, he supervised the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information across the country.
Announcing the appointment, the Police leadership expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, citing his experience in public communication, intelligence management, operational policing and institutional accountability.
The Inspector-General said the appointment is expected to strengthen the Force’s strategic communication efforts, improve engagement with the public and support ongoing policing reforms.
The Nigeria Police Force urged members of the public and media organisations to cooperate with the new spokesman in promoting effective communication and public awareness of policing activities nationwide.
