I’m Not Leaving APC Over Muslim-Muslim Ticket, Dogara Declares

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has dismissed reports claiming he plans to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the party's Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

Dogara said he remains a loyal member of the ruling party and is committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima's re-election bid in 2027.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by his spokesperson, Dr. Dominic Alancha, in response to media reports suggesting the former Speaker was considering dumping the APC over concerns about the party's presidential ticket.

According to the statement, the reports were fabricated by individuals seeking to create unnecessary political tension and sow discord within the ruling party.

"We wish to state categorically that these claims are false, baseless and deliberately intended to mislead the public and create unnecessary political tension," Alancha said.

He stressed that Dogara has neither resigned from the APC nor expressed any intention to do so.

"Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara remains a committed and loyal member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He has neither resigned from the party nor expressed any intention to do so," the statement added.

Alancha further alleged that those behind the reports were "mischief makers" attempting to create division within the APC at a time the party is preparing for the next general elections.

Rather than contemplating an exit, he said Dogara is actively working with party leaders and stakeholders to strengthen the APC ahead of the 2027 polls.

"As a statesman and experienced democrat, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara remains steadfast in his commitment to the unity, growth and success of the APC. He is fully dedicated to working with party leaders, members and supporters across the country to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections," the statement said.

The statement also reaffirmed Dogara's support for President Tinubu's second-term ambition, noting that the former Speaker remains committed to the success of the APC in the next election.

"Furthermore, Rt. Hon. Dogara is committed to supporting the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and ensuring the victory of the APC in the 2027 general election," Alancha stated.

He added that Dogara's priority remains promoting good governance, national unity and the continued progress of Nigeria under the APC administration.

The former Speaker's camp also urged Nigerians and the media to disregard unverified reports regarding his political future and rely only on information released through official channels.

The statement concluded by calling on those responsible for circulating what it described as false reports to desist from spreading misinformation capable of undermining the unity and stability of the ruling party.
