An atmosphere of fear and uncertainty has enveloped Ode Oriya Village in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State following the abduction of the community's traditional ruler, Mr. Adeniyi Adelana, by suspected kidnappers.

The monarch was reportedly seized on Friday night after armed men stormed his palace and forcefully whisked him away.

According to residents, the attackers, believed to be about six in number, invaded the community at approximately 8:00 p.m and took the monarch through a nearby bush path before fleeing the area. During the attack, the monarch's wife was reportedly shot in the right hand by the assailants.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said security operatives responded swiftly after receiving a distress call.

"In the course of the attack, the victim's wife sustained a gunshot injury to her right hand. She was promptly rescued and taken to a nearby medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment and responding positively to medical care," Jimoh stated.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the Divisional Police Officer of B Division Owo, immediately mobilised personnel to the area following reports of the abduction.

According to him, a comprehensive search-and-rescue operation is currently underway to secure the release of the monarch and apprehend those responsible.

"A full-scale search-and-rescue operation has since been launched, with police operatives combing surrounding forests, bush paths and suspected escape routes to locate and rescue the abducted community leader," Jimoh said.

The incident has heightened concerns among residents over the growing threat of kidnapping and violent crimes in parts of Ondo State.

As security agencies intensify efforts to locate the monarch, community members have appealed for urgent intervention and increased security presence to prevent further attacks and ensure the safe return of the traditional ruler.
