From Viral Video to Courtroom: Five Ex-Officers Face Trial Over Killing of 28-Year-Old Man

The judicial process in the controversial killing of 28-year-old Oghenemene Ogidi popularly known as OG Millan, has formally commenced with a Delta State High Court ordering the remand of five dismissed police officers accused of involvement in the fatal shooting.

The accused persons, including a dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police, Usman Nuhu, were arraigned before the High Court sitting in Asaba on Monday following investigations into the incident that occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State.

The case, filed under Charge No. DTHC/ASB/CR/M/66/2026, is being heard before Justice Marshall Onome Umukoro.

Following submissions before the court, Justice Umukoro directed that the suspects be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre for 15 working days pending the issuance of legal advice by the Delta State Attorney-General. The court also ruled that subsequent proceedings in the matter would be conducted virtually.

The killing of Ogidi generated widespread public outrage after a video of the shooting surfaced online, sparking calls for justice and renewed scrutiny of police conduct and the use of firearms by security personnel. Following internal investigations, the Nigeria Police Force sanctioned the officers involved. The Inspector-General of Police approved their dismissal from service and recommended criminal prosecution, citing serious violations of established policing procedures and regulations governing the use of lethal force.
