The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended the collation of results from its ongoing presidential primary election, citing Eid-el-Kabir celebrations and logistical challenges affecting some returning officers.
The announcement was made late Tuesday by the chairman of the party’s Presidential Primary Election Committee, Ikechi Emenike, who said the temporary suspension became necessary to accommodate Muslim faithful participating in the Sallah celebrations and to allow delayed electoral officials arrive Abuja safely. “We are postponing the collation to allow our brothers and sisters celebrate Sallah, participate in the religious activity and to enable returning officers who had flight challenges to arrive Abuja later today,” Emenike stated.
According to the committee chairman, collation of results from the remaining states will now resume by 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Before the postponement, results from 24 states and the Federal Capital Territory had already been received and announced by various state returning officers.
The affected states awaiting final collation include Borno, Kebbi, Anambra, Abia, Ekiti, Ondo, Gombe, Oyo, Imo, Yobe, Nasarawa, Enugu, Benue, Osun, Adamawa, Kogi, Kano, Akwa Ibom, Ebonyi, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto, Taraba and Zamfara. The ADC presidential primary has attracted growing national attention as the party positions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Political observers say the temporary halt may further heighten tension among party supporters and aspirants awaiting the final outcome of the exercise. The primary is part of broader political realignments currently reshaping Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the next presidential contest.
Party officials, however, insisted that the postponement was purely administrative and not connected to any dispute over the results already announced.
The ADC leadership also assured party members that the collation process would continue transparently once all returning officers arrive Abuja.
