Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has said the pupils and teachers rescued from captivity following the abduction at Oriire Local Government will remain under medical observation for 48 hours before they are formally handed over to the Oyo State Government.

The governor disclosed this on Saturday after visiting the rescued victims at the 2 Division Medical Services and Hospital, Ibadan, where they are receiving treatment.

Makinde said the decision was taken to allow doctors carry out comprehensive medical examinations on the victims, many of whom are still physically weak and emotionally traumatised after weeks in captivity.

According to him, the medical assessment will also enable healthcare professionals to determine the level of care and counselling required before the victims are reunited with their families.

He assured that the state government would provide continued medical and psychological support throughout the recovery process, adding that arrangements were already underway to facilitate the reunion of the victims with their loved ones.

The governor expressed gratitude to all those involved in securing the victims' freedom and reiterated his administration's commitment to the safety and security of residents across Oyo State.

The governor's visit came hours after a delegation from the Oyo State Government was reportedly denied access to the rescued victims at the military medical facility.
