FG Debunks ₦50,000 National Support Allowance Registration, Warns Nigerians Against Scam

The Federal Government has dismissed reports claiming that registration has commenced for a purported ₦50,000 National Support Allowance, describing the information as false and warning Nigerians against falling victim to online fraudsters.

In a public notice issued on its official X account on Sunday, the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction clarified that it has not launched any registration exercise for the alleged programme.

"The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has NOT commenced registration for any ₦50,000 National Support Allowance," the ministry stated.

The ministry urged Nigerians to disregard messages, websites and application links promoting the purported scheme, warning that they were created by fraudsters to obtain personal information and defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

"Disregard fraudulent messages, links and websites claiming otherwise. Verify any information only through official government channels," the ministry added.

The clarification follows the circulation of a fake flyer on social media claiming that the Federal Government had introduced a ₦50,000 National Support Allowance under the directive of President Bola Tinubu.

The viral advert, published in both English and Hausa, directed prospective applicants to a suspicious website where they were asked to submit their personal details.

The ministry reiterated that information on all Federal Government social intervention programmes would only be communicated through verified government platforms and official channels.

It also advised Nigerians to exercise caution when responding to online advertisements or unsolicited messages promising financial assistance, noting that similar scams have previously targeted beneficiaries of government programmes, including the N-Power scheme.

The ministry urged members of the public to verify any information relating to government intervention programmes before taking any action, stressing that official announcements would always be made through authorised government communication channels.
