A notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Sani Yellow, has reportedly been killed during a gun battle with local hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to reports, the suspected bandit kingpin was killed after armed men launched an attack on communities in the area, prompting a fierce response from local security volunteers who successfully repelled the assault.

Sources familiar with the incident said the exchange of gunfire resulted in the death of Kachalla Yellow, who was regarded as one of the influential bandit commanders operating in Zamfara State.

The deceased was reportedly linked to a series of attacks on communities across Anka, Bukkuyum and Maru local government areas, where residents have endured years of armed violence, kidnappings and other criminal activities.

He was also accused of coordinating attacks on rural communities in parts of Nigeria's North-West, where armed groups have continued to pose serious security challenges.

Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said the police had received reports of the incident.

However, the police spokesperson did not provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the operation or officially release additional information about the reported killing.

News of Kachalla Yellow's reported death has generated widespread reactions across Zamfara State, with photographs purportedly showing his remains circulating on social media.

The reported killing comes amid ongoing security operations by military personnel, police, local vigilantes and community-based security groups aimed at weakening armed bandit networks operating across Zamfara and other states in Nigeria's North-West.

Authorities have yet to issue a comprehensive statement on the operation or independently verify further details surrounding the incident.
