The Ekiti State Government has declared Friday, June 19, 2026 a work-free day for public servants across the state to enable them travel to their respective voting centres ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The directive was approved by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji and conveyed in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service.

According to the circular, the work-free day is intended to facilitate the participation of workers in the electoral process by allowing them sufficient time to make necessary travel arrangements before the election.

The government, however, clarified that personnel providing essential services are exempted from the directive in order to ensure public safety and uninterrupted service delivery.

The exempted institutions include hospitals, health centres, fire service departments and other agencies considered critical to the welfare and security of residents.

The circular directed heads of the affected institutions to put in place adequate duty rosters and operational arrangements to guarantee the continuous provision of services throughout the period.

It further instructed Chief Executive Officers and Accounting Officers of government establishments to ensure strict compliance with the directive and give it wide publicity within their respective organisations.

The governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 20, 2026 across the 16 local government areas of the state, with the Independent National Electoral Commission expected to oversee the exercise.
