Edo Queens have emerged champions of the 2025/26 Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership after securing a goalless draw against Bayelsa Queens in the final round of the Super Six playoffs on Sunday.

The result at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt was enough to hand coach Moses Aduku’s side their second league title in three years.

Heading into the decisive fixture, Edo Queens led the standings with nine points and required only a draw to secure the championship.

They achieved that objective with a disciplined performance against Bayelsa Queens, who were also in contention for the title.

Celebrating the achievement, the club wrote:

“Edo Queens have been dropping chart-toppers all season, and the final track is gold! NWFL 2025/2026 secured the victory anthem is loud, proud and unstoppable. Adaaa Edo Queens.”

The final day also saw Nasarawa Amazons draw with Rivers Angels, while Abia Angels and FC Robo Queens shared the spoils in another stalemate.

At the conclusion of the Super Six tournament, Edo Queens finished top of the table with 10 points.

Bayelsa Queens and Nasarawa Amazons ended the competition on eight points each, while Abia Angels finished with six points. FC Robo Queens and Rivers Angels both concluded the campaign on four points.

The title triumph secures Edo Queens’ place at the forthcoming WAFU-B Women’s Championship, which serves as the qualifying competition for the CAF Women’s Champions League.

Individual honours were also presented following the conclusion of the season.

FC Robo Queens star Oluwakemi Adegbuyi was named the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership Player of the Season after an outstanding campaign.

Abia Angels goalkeeper Fatima Okolo received the Goalkeeper of the Season award in recognition of her impressive performances throughout the campaign.

Rivers Angels were honoured with the Fair Play Award for exemplary conduct during the Super Six competition.

The Golden Boot award was shared by Rivers Angels forward Abasiofoh Uwah and Edo Queens striker Atume Doorsuur after both players finished the season with 13 goals.

“A well-deserved shared honour for two outstanding forwards with 13 goals,” the NWFL said.

Meanwhile, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, congratulated Edo Queens on their achievement, describing the title victory as a reward for resilience, discipline, determination and quality.

“Winning this prestigious title for the second time is a remarkable achievement and a testament to the consistency, excellence and determination that define the Edo people,” the governor said.

He added that the victory would inspire young girls across the state and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sports development and youth empowerment.

“This victory is not only a triumph for the club but also an inspiration to young girls across our state and beyond to dream big, work hard and pursue excellence. As a government, we remain committed to supporting sports development and creating opportunities for our youths to excel on national and international stages.”

With the domestic title secured, Edo Queens will now shift focus to continental qualification as they seek to extend their dominance beyond Nigerian football.
