Delta Police Confirm Court Charges Against ‘Odogwu of Asaba’ In Favour Agbro Case

The Delta State Police Command says it will prosecute Ifeanyi Ogbonna, the Asaba-based content creator popularly known as "Odogwu of Asaba," over allegations linked to the reported rape of 20-year-old Favour Agbro, whose death has sparked widespread public outrage.

The command confirmed on Thursday that the suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in an update as the case continued to generate intense public attention across Delta State and on social media.

"He is in custody and will be charged to court," Edafe said.

Ogbonna, 40, who also operates a boutique within a hotel in Asaba, was arrested following allegations that he sexually assaulted Agbro after inviting her to the state under the guise of offering mentorship in content creation.

Police have alleged that the incident occurred after the young woman travelled from Warri to Asaba, where she was allegedly raped and physically assaulted before returning home.

Investigators also allege that Agbro later died after ingesting a toxic substance, following the recording of a video in which she narrated her account of the events and accused the suspect of sexually assaulting her.

The exact circumstances surrounding her death remain under investigation.

The Delta State Police Command has not disclosed when the suspect will be formally arraigned but maintained that the case is progressing in line with due process.

The police have reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation and ensuring that all aspects of the allegations are examined before prosecution.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to determine the specific charges that will be filed before the court.

Meanwhile, additional photographs, video clips and alleged private conversations said to involve the deceased and the suspect have continued to circulate widely on social media, fuelling public debate over the case.

Some online commentators have expressed differing opinions on the events leading to the incident.

However, SkyHigh News Hub notes that opinions expressed on social media are not evidence and should not be interpreted as findings of fact.

Under Nigerian law, the allegations against the suspect remain subject to judicial determination and Ifeanyi Ogbonna is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a competent court of law.

The case has reignited conversations around sexual violence, the protection of vulnerable young women, mental health support for survivors of abuse and the need for timely access to justice.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the prosecution process begins.
