The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to grant bail to John Jude Agbo, a man standing trial on terrorism and cybercrime charges over allegations that he planned multiple attacks on schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik delivered the ruling on Thursday after the Department of State Services (DSS) concluded its case by presenting its fourth and final witness.
The judge subsequently ordered that the defendant remain in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service pending the continuation of his trial.
Ruling on Agbo's bail application, Justice Abdulmalik held that the defence failed to satisfy the court that the defendant would not abscond if released on bail.
The court therefore declined the application and directed that he remain in custody.
Agbo is facing charges bordering on terrorism and cybercrime, with prosecutors alleging that he planned attacks targeting schools, students and teachers in the Federal Capital Territory.
Earlier in the proceedings, the prosecution called its fourth witness, a Department of State Services (DSS) operative, who narrated how security officials investigated Agbo and persons alleged to have collaborated with him.
During the hearing, the prosecution tendered an audio-visual recording of Agbo's interview with investigators.
The court admitted the recording into evidence and it was played in open court.
Following the presentation of the witness and documentary evidence, the prosecution formally closed its case.
With the prosecution's case concluded, the court adjourned the matter until September 24, 2026, when the defendant is expected to begin presenting his defence.
The case continues.
