The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that an incident involving the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) occurred on Monday, with emergency response teams immediately mobilised to the scene.

In a brief statement issued by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the NRC said relevant authorities were already attending to the situation and providing necessary assistance to those affected.

While details of the incident were not immediately disclosed, the Corporation assured members of the public that it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating response efforts.

According to the statement, emergency personnel and other relevant agencies are currently on ground to assess the situation and ensure appropriate interventions are carried out.

The NRC said a comprehensive statement containing further details would be released as soon as more information becomes available.

The Corporation also appealed to the public to remain calm and avoid speculation, urging citizens to rely solely on official communication channels for accurate and verified updates regarding the incident.

The Warri–Itakpe rail corridor remains one of Nigeria's most strategic standard gauge rail lines, linking communities across Delta, Edo and Kogi states while facilitating passenger movement and economic activities along the route.
