Amaranta Hank: Former Adult Film Actress Begins New Career as Colombian Senator

Former adult film actress Deyci Alejandra Omana Ortiz, popularly known by her stage name Amaranta Hank, has been sworn in as a senator of Colombia following her victory in the country's March 2026 parliamentary elections.

Omana will represent Norte de Santander in the Colombian Senate for the 2026–2030 legislative term after securing the 23rd position on the closed electoral list of the left-wing Historic Pact coalition.

The Historic Pact emerged as the strongest political force in the Senate elections, reportedly securing more than 4.4 million votes, representing 22.72 per cent of the total votes cast, and winning 25 Senate seats.

Omana, who previously worked as a journalist before entering the adult entertainment industry, has argued that her professional past should not determine her capacity to serve in public office.

Her election has sparked renewed debate in Colombia over whether a person's previous career should influence their suitability for elected office.

Responding to criticism following her election, Omana questioned why women with backgrounds in the adult entertainment industry should be prevented from pursuing political careers.

“Why can't a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” she asked in a TikTok video.

Beyond her advocacy for people working in the adult entertainment industry, the newly sworn-in senator has identified mental health and the prevention of sexual abuse among her legislative priorities.

Omana has also called for greater legal recognition and protection for people working in the adult entertainment sector, arguing that women involved in what she describes as the sexual economy contribute to Colombia's economy and should not face discrimination because of their past.

Her entry into Colombia's Senate follows an earlier controversial appointment to the country's Ministry of Equality, where she and fellow former adult performer Juan Carlos Florian were appointed as deputy ministers under President Gustavo Petro's administration.

The appointments generated significant public debate, particularly over the role of personal history and professional background in public service.

Omana's swearing-in now marks another significant step in her transition from the entertainment industry into mainstream politics.

Her emergence as a legislator is expected to keep alive discussions around political representation, social inclusion, personal history and the standards applied to public office holders in Colombia.

As she begins her four-year tenure, attention will now shift to how she translates her advocacy on workers rights, mental health and sexual abuse prevention into legislative action within the Colombian Senate.
