The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially locked in its candidate for the upcoming 2027 presidential election. In a massive, high-profile ceremony held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu formally received the party's flag and official Certificate of Return.
The presentation serves as the definitive confirmation of the President's victory in the ruling party’s primary election. According to internal data verified by party officials, Tinubu secured an overwhelming mandate of 10,999,162 votes, comfortably defeating his sole primary challenger, Stanley Osifo, who recorded 16,505 votes.
The APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, personally handed over the symbols of the party's mandate to the President. "This certificate represents the voices of over 10 million APC supporters across the country," Yilwatda noted during the presentation. "Your Excellency, congratulations. Your emergence demonstrates an unshakeable confidence in your leadership as we look toward the 2027 polls."
Key Moments from the Acceptance Speech
President Tinubu accepted the flag alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. Addressing an elite crowd of APC governors, National Assembly members and members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the President did not shy away from addressing the economic reality facing the nation.
Defending Bold Reforms: Tinubu explicitly stood by the structural choices of his administration, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, currency exchange rate unifications and sweeping tax adjustments. He argued these steps are painful but necessary to build a sustainable economic foundation.
A Call for Cohesion: With the general campaign season looming, the President urged all factions within the APC to remain tightly united, warning that internal party alignment is the single most vital factor required to consolidate his administration's developmental strides.
An Inclusive Mandate: Promising a "renewed call to service," Tinubu guaranteed that his next phase of governance would focus on massive infrastructure expansion, heightened security measures, job creation and listening to all Nigerians regardless of regional or ethnic affiliations.
With the certificate and flag now securely in hand, the APC's political machinery is expected to sharply ramp up its nationwide grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 campaign calendar.
